(Zool.) a wingless insect of the group Mallophaga, of which the genera and species are very numerous and mostly parasitic upon birds. - Bird mite (Zool.), a small mite (genera Dermanyssus, Dermaleichus and allies) parasitic upon birds. The species are numerous.
