Definition of Jacob's ladder

(Bot.) A perennial herb of the genus Polemonium (Polemonium cœruleum), having corymbs of drooping flowers, usually blue. Gray.
(Naut.) A rope ladder, with wooden steps, for going aloft
(Naut.) A succession of short cracks in a defective spar.
